Who is Heritage Environmental Services?

Heritage Thermal Services LLC, parent company of Heritage Thermal of Texas, is a privately held, family-owned business headquartered in Indianapolis with more than 1,600 employees across North America. For the past 50 years, Heritage has been a leader in environmental sustainability and a one-stop waste management solution for its customers.

Why is Heritage expanding operations in southeast Texas?

In 2020, Heritage Environmental Services expanded operations to southeast Texas by purchasing an existing hazardous waste incinerator within the heart of The Dow Chemical Company Sabine River Works facility in Orange, Texas. Heritage saw a business opportunity and then carefully and strategically considered the implications the additional business would bring to the community. During and following the acquisition, Heritage has worked with local and state leaders to ensure continued protection of human health, the environment and economic vitality. The facility will operate under the name Heritage Thermal of Texas, LLC (“HTT).

Are there any other Heritage facilities in Texas?

Heritage is no stranger to Texas. In fact, Monument Chemical, an affiliate company, has been operating in southeast Texas since 2008.

Does Heritage have plans to expand operations following the incinerator acquisition?

There are no plans to expand the size of the facility or its permitted waste volumes. HTT does plan to expand its customer base, although not the types of wastes authorized by its permit. HTT plans to increase the number of staff employed from the current count of 35 to more than 150 over the near term.

What changes will HTT make at the Sabine River Works facility?

In addition to managing waste produced onsite at the Sabine River Works facility, HTT will also accept material from other Heritage Environmental Services and private customer locations as well as from its affiliated facilities (e.g., Monument Chemical and Calumet Specialty Products Partners).

When will HTT start operating the incinerator?

We have been operating the facility since completing our purchase in May of 2020, in compliance with existing permits.

What is HTT doing to improve the local community of Orange?

HTT is grateful for the opportunity to operate its business in Orange and is committed to being a good and responsible business partner and neighbor to the community. HTT’s operations will help sustain a clean and safe environment for the Golden Triangle, while maintaining an important employment and tax base. To help manage and maintain the incinerator, HTT has employed 35 staff members, an increase of 21 employees since acquiring the facility in May 2020. As operations continue to grow, HTT anticipates that number could increase to as many as 150 employees.

Who will manage HTT’s onsite operations?

Mark Mitchell, Director of Operations Management, will serve as the facility manager and will oversee the incinerator’s operations. Prior to accepting this role with HTT, Mark spent the last four decades at the DuPont (now Dow) Sabine River Works facility, starting as an Operator in 1979. In addition to his lifelong commitment to the Sabine River Works, Mark has also served on the boards of The Salvation Army and American Red Cross chapters in Orange, Texas.
